If you’re not from the area it may sound surprising to find out that the Lexington cemetery is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in central Kentucky. In the spring and summer there are gorgeous beds of tulips and the whole cemetery is filled with lush green trees. As a kid I always looked forward to going to the ponds and feeding the geese and ducks, provided they were in a good mood. If they aren’t, I’d highly recommend you just stay in your car (trust me).
I fell in love with the pattern of this dress. I hardly ever wear bold patterns like this, but when I find a good one it makes me wish I had more in my closet. I tend to wear a lot of black, so if you’re like me and need to stretch your horizons, this is just the ticket.
This is one of the most comfortable turtleneck dresses I’ve ever worn; the fabric is so soft it’s almost like butter. It also has the body of a swing dress, so it’s going to have more room in the body and be forgiving in the midsection (I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want that). It also comes in several different patterns, and what I’ve noticed with all of them is the larger the pattern the more forgiving. It almost serves as an illusion that distracts from all of those areas we see as “problem areas”. I prefer to tie a belt around my waist because I feel like the pattern can get too overwhelming without one. It needs some kind of separation so your body doesn’t get lost in the pattern (this is true with most patterned dresses).
My boots are by Frye and they go with everything. They may be a bit of an investment, but once you buy a pair you will never need to buy boots again. This particular pair is really classic and doesn’t have too much detailing so they will never go out of style. I’ve had mine for three years and they still look like the day I took them out of the box.
I have been having the best time lately recreating my favorite celebrities’ makeup. Today I did a simple gold smokey eye with some fun Audrey Hepburn eyeliner. Audrey’s classic eyeliner was always so gorgeous and I’m enjoying incorporating it into my looks almost every day. It is simple enough so you don’t feel like you’ve gone overboard, but it’s also just enough so that you feel like you’ve done something special with your makeup. I’m also wearing my favorite Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Bachelorette. It’s the perfect reddish fuchsia color, and It stays on All. Day. Long. I absolutely love it because it is so pigmented and stays in place all day, I never have to worry about re applying.
I like to go light on my jewelry, and threaded earrings have become one of my go-to’s if I want something different from my favorite climber earrings. These earrings actually thread through your ears, which if you haven’t tried it before can sound kind of scary. Threaded earrings aren’t anything to be afraid of though- they’re super easy to put in and once you start wearing them you won’t want to stop. Bonus: you never have to worry about losing the back of an earring again!
The wrap belt I’m wearing is one of my favorite things right now; it works with just about every outfit. What’s different about this one versus other wrap belts I’ve tried in the past is how thin yet sturdy the fabric is. Most wrap belts I’ve seen in the past are textured, making the fabric harder to work with and style but this one is the easiest wrap belt I have ever used. It takes no time at all to style and it’s really versatile.
